Ready for the long ride North

So tomorrow it begins.... I leave fireflies, the staff, the students, and all the fun I've been having and I go to my friend Ravindra's house for the night. 1pm, January 7th, I board a busy train and make my way to Delhi. From there I take a bus to Kathmandu, enter Nepal, and get ready for my plans.

Before describing my plans, let me describe my situation here. For the past week I've been working in the Fireflies kitchen with workers from all different castes. I've been learning a lot of kannada, learning how to cook Indian dishes, and in return I'm able to stay at Fireflies till I leave. It's been a blast. I find that I am a lot happier working with my hands, with underprivileged people, rather than behind a computer making pamphlets and internet stuff. I'm happy I know computers, but I do not want that to be my career choice.

As for Nepal... here are my plans. To Kathmandu. Apparently for USD$80 you can bungee jump into a gorge 160m deep. I'll have to think about that one. But the meat of my trip is this: Everest. Base. Camp. Trek.

That's right, if all goes well and winter isn't too bad up in the mountains, in the next couple weeks I will be standing at the foot of the tallest mountain in the world. On top of that, the base camp is close to 17,000ft above sea level. Just thinking about that altitude blows my mind. I'll have to make sure I don't ascend too fast... mountain/altitude sickness can be fatal.

A quick post since I don't have a lot of internet time, but I thought you might be interested in my plans...

(G&G, I am going to e-mail you soon about my job situation. Sorry about the delay! I'll try and send it before I leave on Thursday...)

Here we go, onto traveling again!
